On February 13, 1915, Captain Kilmer took off from the Grand Port of Valletta on a seaplane brought aboard the HMS Ark Royal. The aircraft landed again in the harbor after a 55-minute flight. The coin depicts Captain Kilmer's seaplane and, in the background, the tip of Senglea, one of the prominent elements in the Grand Harbor landscape
