coin Austria 10 euro commemorative 2013 "Vorarlberg" fdc
dedicated to the Austrian region of Vorarlberg - copper metal - weight 14.9 g - diameter 32 mm km3224
The westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg is bounded by Germany, Switzerland and Lichtenstein as well as Lake Constance, one of the largest lakes in central Europe. No tribute to Ländle, as the Vorarlbergers affectionately call their homeland, would be complete without der Bodensee, and thus the lake stands out on both sides of the impressive fourth coin of our Austria Piece by Piece series.
Much more than a place of extraordinary natural beauty, the Vorarlberg is also rich in ancient traditions, one of which, the Bodensee-Radhaube, a spectacular circular bonnet whose artisan way of production has been handed down from generation to generation, is considered an example UNESCO's "immaterial cultural heritage". The bonnet is worn in all its splendor on the obverse of the coin with Lake Constance and the Tower of St. Martin in Bregenz, the capital of the province, in the background. The tower also stands out on the reverse side of the coin, as well as the peaks of the panoramic Pfänder and its cable car, in a very original design by Alissa De Mori, a local student who beat tough opposition to win our competition to co-design the currency, which was supported by the Ministry of Education.
